You all have probably heard me babble ad nauseam about the adorable NPR Bat-- so here she is, in full-on stereophonic SQUEEEEE-ness!

Could you not just die of the cute? Our bat rescue lady reports she has gained three grams since coming to the sanctuary, and in fact stuffed herself with so many mealworms a few days ago that she got an upset stomach. Poor little bat!

And if you HAVEN'T heard me babble about this, the gist of what happened is that our online staff noticed a bat roosting in the side of an office building right across the street from NPR, next to a busy bus stop. So we brought in a bat rescue expert to have a look. Here's the segment that we just aired-- have a listen, if it is your will: Bat Winters in D.C., to Delight of Urban Dwellers

That's just wonderful! :-)

I was intrigued to read a couple of the other articles on the site and learn that ATC caused some initial worry when the bat was rescued and others wondered where she'd gone.

I wonder if she went into torpor too early and hadn't eaten/drunk enough beforehand? Or are bats still supposed to get up for a drink of water during their winter naps and she didn't? Or did but couldn't find enough food/water at the bus stop?

Wow! Behold the power of squee! It's amazing how many people care about our little bat-- I've been bombarded by emails from people at work wondering where she went and asking for bat health updates.

We don't know why she decided to roost by the bus stop, other than that the crack in the side of the ATF building looked like a nice chilly rock crevice just perfect for winter torpor. The bat lady said it's almost impossible to tell how old bats are, but our girl could be quite young and confused, as young bats often are.

And as far as I know, she doesn't have Soothing Liberal Sonar yet :) I'll keep you all posted!

OMG HAPPYBAT!!!!!!!!! <3

Hi, btw -- I've added you, if you don't mind! ^_^

And something came up that I thought you might be interested in . . . the background is that my friend Marianne ([info]onceupon) just got interviewed by the NYT regarding her fat-acceptance blog, and she would love to talk to NPR about it, but isn't sure who to contact (apparently the website wasn't working for her yesterday.) Figured this might be kismet, given the timing!

*squeezes*

I had the best time at dinner last night, thanks again for coming!!

Thanks for the add! Though I'm seriously boring and hardly ever post...

It was great to see you, and I'll pass along the fat-acceptance links to my producers. It's not the kind of thing I can work on myself, as I am rather obviously biased :)
